Information about Scale (spatial)
| Scale | Length | Area | Locale |
| Micro | 1 m - 1 km | 1 m² - 1 km² | local |
| Meso | 1 km - 100 km | 1 km² - 100 km² | regional |
| Macro | 100 km - 10 000 km | 100 km² - 10 000 km² | continental |
| Mega | > 10 000 km | >10 000 km² | global |
Spatial scale provides a "shorthand" form for discussing relative lengths, areas, distances and sizes. A microclimate, for instance, is one which might occur in a mountain valley or near a lakeshore, whereas a megatrend is one which involves the whole planet.
It is important to realize that these divisions are more or less arbitrary, and where, on this table, mega- is assigned global scope, it may only apply continentally or even regionally in other contexts. The interpretations of meso- and macro- must then be adjusted accordingly.

mountain is a landform that extends above the surrounding terrain in a limited area. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill, but there is no universally accepted standard definition for the height of a mountain or a hill although a mountain usually has an identifiable

Astronomers use a number of different length units for different objects. The length unit used is typically determined by two criteria:

The cosmic distance ladder is the succession of methods by which astronomers determine the distances to celestial objects. A real direct distance measurement to an astronomical object is only possible for those objects that are "close enough" (within about a thousand

The Planck length, denoted by , is the unit of length approximately 1.6 × 10−35 metres, 6.3 × 10-34 inches, or about 10-20 times the diameter of a proton. It is in the system of units known as Planck units.

The Universe is defined as the summation of all particles and energy that exist and the space-time in which all events occur. Based on observations of the portion of the Universe that is observable, physicists attempt to describe the whole of space-time, including all matter and
