In anatomy, the posterior tibial vein of the lower limb carries blood from the posterior compartment and plantar surface of the foot to the popliteal vein which it forms when it joins with the anterior tibial vein.

Like most deep veins, the posterior tibial vein is accompanied by an artery of the same name, the posterior tibial artery, along its course.

In anatomy, the fibular veins (also known as the peroneal veins) are accompanying veins (venae comitantes) of the fibular artery.

Structure

The fibular veins are deep veins that help carry blood from the lateral compartment of the leg.

The popliteal vein course runs along side the popliteal artery but carries the blood from the knee joint and muscles in the thigh and calf back to the heart.

Its origin is defined by the junction of the posterior tibial vein and anterior tibial vein.

In sciences dealing with the anatomy of animals, precise anatomical terms of location are necessary for a variety of reasons. Non-scientists often wonder why zoological and human anatomists use complex terminology to describe locations on a body, when common terms like "up",

The foot is a biological structure found in many animals that is used for locomotion. In many animals with feet, the foot is a separate organ at the terminal part of the leg made up of one or more segments or bones, generally including claws or nails.

Deep vein is a term used to describe a vein that is deep in the body. It is used to differentiate deep veins from veins which are close to the surface, also known as superficial veins.

Deep veins are almost always beside an artery with the same name (e.g.
