Information about Paronychium
Paronychium is the term for the soft tissue surrounding the border of the fingernail or toenail. This tissue can become infected around an ingrown toenail or finger nail. The resulting infection is termed paronychia.
However, if the infection continues to spread, it can be hard to get rid of it with the previous treatment. Small surgery might become necessary but antibiotics can be prescribed. If the later fails, surgery is necessary. The nail has to be removed and regular clinic visits to change the bandage will be required. If the nail grows back abnormally and causes further ingrown nails, another surgery will be required, this time burning the root to prevent the nail from growing ever again (and thus causing more infections).
Should the infection be ignored by the bearer, it could become dangerous. The infected area can spread (at this point, the affected parts will have to be cut off completely) and if worse, the infection will eventually poison the blood and could eventually lead to death.
Infection Treatment
The infection can be treated by some bleach mixed in hot water. Putting the infected area in the mix and waiting ten minutes will soften the skin and pressing the inflated areas can make some of the infection come out. When the area deflates enough, the nail can be pulled out and put back above the skin once more; this will prevent more infections from occurring. Treatment can go for one to two weeks until the infection completely goes away. Recommanded to do the treatment four times a day. However, if the infection continues to spread, it can be hard to get rid of it with the previous treatment.
