Information about Nephridiopore

Nephridiopore is part of the nephridia, an excretory organ found in many organisms, such as flatworms or annelids. Nephridia are analogous to nephrons or uriniferous tubules found in the kidney of humans.

The nephridia consists of an opening called nephrostome, a long convoluted tubule and another opening called the nephridiopore. Body fluids are filtered in through the nephrostome and passed through the convoluted tubule system. Essential substances are reabsorbed through active mechanisms and waste products are secreted back into the lumen of the tube. The resulting excretory fluid or urine is passed out through the nephridiopore.
Nephridia are invertebrate organs which function similarly to kidneys. They remove metabolic wastes from an animal's body. They are present in many different invertebrate lines. There are two basic types, metanephridia and protonephridia.

Excretion is the process of eliminating waste products of metabolism and other non-useful materials.[1] It is an essential process in all forms of life.

In single-celled organisms, waste products are discharged directly through the surface of the cell.

A nephron (from Greek νεφρός (nephros) meaning "kidney") is the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney. Its chief function is to regulate the concentration of water and soluble substances like sodium salts by filtering the blood,

Nephrostome is the funnel-like component of a metanephridium. It is always oriented towards the coelom. The nephrostome is covered from the inside with cilia, which push the water, metabolic wastes, unnecessary hormones and other substances into the metanephridium.

Convoluted tubule is the compound of a metanephridium which is wrapped with capillaries. The process of reabsorption occurs in this part of the metanephridium.

Filtration is the processe of using a filter to mechanically separate mixtures. Depending on the application, either one or both of the components may be isolated. Examples of filtration include A) a coffee filter to keep the coffee separate from the grounds and B) the use of HEPA
