University College Falmouth is the first institution of higher education in Cornwall to be able to award degrees in its own name. Previously, all degrees in Cornwall were awarded from the University of Exeter, University of Plymouth or other universities located outside the county.
University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall, a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through higher education. The CUC is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council
In August 2007 UCF entered the Sunday Times University Guide for the first time, coming in at number 57 in a league table consisting of 124 universities and colleges across the UK. Falmouths entry was the highest for a University College.
Falmouths high ranking (just below the best modern universities) is due in part to an exceptionally low dropout rate, well below funding council expectations. It awards a staggering number of high-class degrees, with more than four in five students (81%) gaining a first or a 2:1.
This statistic made University College Falmouth the 5th highest University in the country for awarding first and 2:1 degrees behind Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol and St Andrews.
Falmouth has two campuses. Woodlane within Falmouth, and the Tremough campus of the Combined Universities in Cornwall, near Penryn.
