Before joining Microsoft, where the UIEvolution CEO Satoshi Nakajima had been one of the top authors of new patents, he worked and studied in Japan. He was a researcher at NTT Labs, and worked at Microsoft's Japanese subsidiary. He holds an electrical engineering degree from Waseda University in Tokyo. When Brad Silverberg and a few other executives from Microsoft, together with a couple people from AT&T Wireless, founded Ignition (venture capital company), Satoshi Nakajima joined Ignition as a partner but with the full intention of starting a company from there. After about eight months in Ignition, he used its fundings to form UIEvolution.
UIEvolution makes software for mobile phones. The software is based on a platform-independent middleware that allows UIEvolution to port its application from one mobile platform to another.
Some of the applications developed by UIEvolution include:
- The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe mobile game
- ESPN Mobile MVNO Sports experience
- ESPN Bottomline mobile application
- Trivial Pursuit mobile game
- MySpace Mobile
