List of Father Ted episodes

"Think Fast, Father Ted" is the 2nd episode of the second series of Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted. The title is a play on the novel Think Fast, Mr. Moto, by John P. Marquand and the film of the same title starring Peter Lorre.

This episode was originally a Series 1 episode, but was scrapped because the episode title (ending in "...Father Ted") was becoming repetitive. However, this explains why they have the car in the previous episode, "Hell".

Synopsis

The parochial house has a leak, which happens to be over Jack's head. Ted and Dougal move him, only to have a new leak start over Jack's new position. Ted decides to hold a raffle to raise money for the roof.

As they're allowed a prize from the clergy every few years, Ted and Dougal arrive with a new (and free) car. Moments after they return, Dougal notices a dent on the car. Ted tries to mend the dent by tapping it out with a hammer, but gets carried away and destroys the car in the process. After a fit of hysteria, he decides to visit Father Liam Finnegan (a.k.a. 'The Dancing Priest') to borrow his car, although he doesn't say anything to Father Finnegan about a raffle.

Realising that they can't give the borrowed car away, Ted and Dougal rig the raffle in order for them to win and return the car. However, on the night of the raffle, Jack empties the drinks cabinet and drives off in the car. Ted and Dougal win the raffle as planned, and return home with over £1,000 from ticket sales.

Mrs Doyle sadly breaks the news to Ted that Father Finnegan has died from a heart attack, caused by too much dancing, and he realises that he can keep the car. Jack suddenly returns and claims that he drove the car to the shops and encountered two trucks upon arriving. When Ted and Dougal inspect the damage, they discover that the rear half has been crushed. Before they can use the money to repair the roof, a fellow priest (Father Billy O'Dwyer) steals the money to pay off his debts, leaving Ted and Dougal with nothing. Ted, Jack, Dougal and Mrs Doyle spend the rest of the year in anoraks.
