It takes place in an academy run by people who supposedly work for the government.. however, it is really an organization entirely outside of the government, unauthorized to be doing any of the things it is. The organization has decided to answer some questions that are pressing on their minds. This organization is one which conducts test on teenagers.

Plot summary

Enter Elijah and Elisha Springfield, sixteen year old twins (along with their parents, Nate and Sarah Springfield) of the Veritas Project (which means 'truth' in Latin) are sent to investigate a place called 'Knight-Moore Academy' when a boy who has been missing for quite some time shows up.. but his mind is gone. He can only say a few sentences.. 'I don't know' and one that makes those at Veritas very concerned.. 'Nightmare Academy.' The Springfields are Christians working for the real government and are told to investigate when the President of the United States becomes slightly uneasy about the mysterious murder of the boy, who was fifteen when he apparently died of a massive heart attack, though it was obvious to the government officials that he really was murdered. Why? Most likely so he can never recover and regain his mind, therefore being able to answer the questions on everyone's minds.

Elijah and Elisha are thrust into a world where there is no truth.. apparently. From the discussions that are used to trick kids into believing there is no truth, therefore there is no right and wrong, to the campus raids and uncivilized fighting amongst the students, everything in this book is leading up to a 'government' project that endangers all the kids on campus. Sarah and Nate Springfield lose contact with their children and have to work on what little they have learned.

When Elijah is taken up to the mysterious mountain after getting in a fight that was involuntarily started, he finds himself battling something that seems unreal... and yet, in every sense of the word is reality. Elisha finds herself battling to find some way to rescue her brother from whatever strange fate that beheld the last boy. Sarah and Nate struggle to find the place where their son and daughter are.

The question that lurks over their heads the entire time that their doing their jobs is this: Is the truth they believe in real in this world that they have been thrust into?.. or did some outside force take over? Does truth exist anymore?

Elijah and Elisha are about to find out!
