Montrail is a company, headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The company manufactures and distributes footwear for trail running, hiking, and rock climbing.[1][2]

Montrail sponsors a range of ultrarunning athletes, rock climbers, and related events across the US. The Montrail Ultrarunning Team sponsorship program has been going since 1996, and now supports 88 athletes. Montrail also hosts and sponsors a number of ultrarunning and trail running events throughout the US. Montrail’s main event, the Montrail Ultra Cup, is a series of six ultrarunning events, culminating at the Western States Endurance Run, a 100 mile ultramarathon.[3]

History

  • 1982- The company is founded as One Sport.
  • 1993- One Sport is reborn as One Sport Inc.
  • 1997- The company is rebranded as Montrail; the Moraine is rated Best Hiking Boot in Backpacker Magazine.
  • 1999- Patents stretchable Gore-Tex in the Java GTX shoe.
  • 2002- Creates first "shoftshell" shoe made with Schoeller fabric.
  • 2003- Excelerace XCR wins Editor’s Choice in Backpacker Magazine and the D7 earns Editor’s Choice in Climbing Magazine.
  • 2004- Gryptonite ultra-sticky rubber is introduced.
  • 2005- PRFRM thermo-moldable foam is introduced in the Molokai/Molokini flip flops, Enduro-Soles, and rock climbing shoes; Gryptonite rubber extends to trail running shoes; Hardrock is introduced and wins awards in Health Magazine and Outside Magazine.
  • 2006- Montrail is acquired by Columbia Sportswear;[4] Continental Divide wins Best Trail Shoe Debut by Runner's World Magazine and Editor's Choice by TrailRunner Magazine.
    • 2007- Namche is named Best Fastpacking Boot and the Java XCR is named Most Supportive Ultralight Boot by Backpacker Magazine.
