Information about Mike Majerus

Dr. Michael E. N. Majerus (born 1954) is a geneticist at the University of Cambridge, and the author of several books.

The son of Fernand and Muriel Majerus, he took an early interest in lepidoptera and ecological genetics following the work of E.B. Ford, whose book Moths (in the New Naturalist series) he bought at age ten. Later he moved into studying ladybirds. He is married to Christina.

His website defines his "keyword" subject areas as:

Evolutionary genetics, ecological genetics, Insecta, polymorphism, melanism, Peppered moth, male-killers, Wolbachia, sexually transmitted disease, reproductive costs, reproductive strategies, ultra-violet patterns in insects, sexual selection, Lepidoptera, Ladybird beetles (Coccinellidae).

He is currently the president of the Amateur Entomologists' Society.

Polymorphism in biology occurs when two or more clearly different types exist in the same population of the same species— in other words, the occurrence of more than one form or morph. The caste system in ants is an example.
