Information about Matt Reeves

Matt Reeves (born 1966 in Rockville Center, New York) is an American film writer, director and producer.

Biography

Matt Reeves has achieved success on the big screen and now on the small screen with Imagine Television and Touchstone Television's hit series "Felicity." Initially intended as a feature film, "Felicity" developed into a television series, allowing the creators an opportunity to look at the minutiae of life for the show's characters. "This is a relationship show," Reeves says. "We're exploring the lives of these characters at a time when they're just starting to find themselves and trying to find their voices."

Born in Rockville Center, New York, and raised in Los Angeles, Reeves has been making movies since he was eight years old, directing friends with a wind-up camera. At 13, he spotted amateur films similar to his own airing on a cable access channel and inquired about getting his projects on television. The station agreed to air Matt's movie and also introduced him to another filmmaker, 13-year-old J.J. Abrams, now his cocreator and executive producer of "Felicity." Although the two attended separate high schools and colleges, they always shared material and maintained a strong creative and personal relationship.

While attending film school at the University of Southern California, Reeves cowrote a script that was sold to Warner Bros. Studios and eventually became "Under Siege II: Dark Territory." At the same time he produced his student film, an award-winning black comedy titled "Mr. Petrified Forest," which brought him Industry attention and landed him an agent.

After graduating from college, Reeves collaborated with another promising young writer, Jason Katims, to write "The Pallbearer," which marked Reeves' directorial debut. Reeves' other feature film credits include cowriting "The Yards" with director James Gray, which is due for release in the fall of 1999 from Miramax Films and stars Mark Wahlberg and James Caan.

In addition to directing the pilot, first episode and season finale of "Felicity" last season, Reeves has helmed episodes for the critically acclaimed television series "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Relativity." [1]
