There are currently 15 breeds of geese recognized by the American Poultry Association. They are divided into three classes: Heavy, Medium and Light.

American Buff Goose is a breed of goose in the Medium Class. It was first recognized by the American Poultry Association in 1947. The is only one recognized variety-Buff. Currently there is another variety the Tufted American Buff being developed but it has not been recognized yet.
