Information about Laurence Stallings

Laurence Tucker Stallings (November 25, 1894 - February 28, 1968) was an American World War I veteran, novelist, playwright, screenwriter, literary critic, journalist and photographer noted for his anti-war book and the equally influential play What Price Glory.

Stallings first novel, Plumes was adapted into King Vidor's The Big Parade, which was quite successful and helped foster a new era of war films. He was also regarded as a key influence on three of John Ford's greatest films, serving as writer or co-writer on Three Godfathers, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and The Sun Shines Bright.

Stalling's last novel, The Doughboys partly explores the racism and discrimination the black troops faced during the war.

Early life

Laurence Stallings was born in Macon, Georgia and was heavily influenced by his southern heritage.
