Greatest Hits is a hits collection by English all-female pop group the Spice Girls. It is also their first album to be released in seven years and was supported by an accompanying world tour. It will receive a physical release worldwide throughout November 2007,[1] except for the United States where it will receive a limited release in November followed by a full release in January 2008.[2]

Release information

History

The greatest hits album was formally announced during a press conference held by the group on Thursday, 28 June, 2007[3] at London's O2 Arena. The group declared they are reforming as a group, nearly seven years after their last album release, Forever. The group will be composed of all five members, including Geri Halliwell who left the group in 1998. Songs released after her departure will be re-recorded to include her vocals.

The plan to reform and release a greatest hits has long been speculated by the media,[4] but its planned release was first confirmed by Melanie Brown in June 2005.[5] Speaking just before a planned reunion for Live 8 (that never actually materialised due to Brown's contractual agreements in L.A.), she stated: "We'll get back together because we all want to. I know everyone is up for it. There is going to be a greatest hits album and we've got loads of new songs that nobody has heard yet."[5]

New material

The album release will feature two new songs, "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" and "Voodoo",[6] with the former being released as a single in November.

The release will feature several different formats, including bonus DVDs and CDs[1]

In the United States, the album will initially only be released through Victoria's Secret stores (along with 3 downloadable bonus remixes) and their website, together with a digital release via iTunes. It will receive a full physical release at all other retail outlets in January 2008.[2]

Artwork

The artwork features a million pound jewel encrusted logo, which pays homage to their debut album, Spice. The jewels were designed by David Morris and each letter represents one member of the group. The "S" is made from amber and represents Victoria Beckham; the ruby pink "P" is Emma Bunton; Melanie C’s letter "I" is made from a diamond; Geri Halliwell is the "C", made from sapphire stones and the emerald "E" is Melanie B.
