Grand Game is a pricing game on the American television game show, The Price Is Right. Debuting on May 16, 1980, it is played for a cash prize of $10,000, and uses grocery items.

On primetime specials starting in 2002, Grand Game's top prize is $20,000. Outside of the prize values starting with "2" instead of "1," this does not affect the gameplay in any way.

Gameplay

The contestant begins with $1 displayed on the game board, and a "target price." The contestant is then shown six grocery items, four of which are worth less than the target price.

The contestant selects an item they believe is less than the target price. If they are correct, a zero is added to the end of the player's total. This is repeated for two more items; thus, the possible totals after the each of the first three correct guesses are $10, $100, and $1,000.

If a contestant makes an incorrect guess up to this point, the game ends, and they win whatever total they have earned (including $1 for an incorrect first guess). After the third correct guess, the contestant may quit with $1,000 or try to win $10,000 by picking the last remaining item worth less than the target price. If they choose to go on at this point and make a mistake, they win nothing.

History

On 1994's syndicated The New Price Is Right, the items in play were not grocery items but instead were small prizes commonly featured on games such as Plinko. As such, it was not uncommon to see "target prices" of $100 or more.

Foreign versions of Grand Game

While Grand Game's rules in other countries tend to be the same as the US, but with different prizes (such as only $2,000 on Canada's Misez Juste or 10,000₣ on France's Le Juste Prix [despite that 10,000₣ only equals about US$2,000 when they were going to the euro]), Germany's Der Preis ist Heiss was overhauled for their version, called Vier mal die Nul (Four times the Zero). To win the DM10,000 grand prize, a contestant had to pick which was the correct product to a given question (i.e., which costs more?). Like the US, they started at DM1, and they used grocery products.
