A gender symbol is a symbol used to denote the sex of a life form or the gender of a human being.

Standard gender symbols

From the symbol of Mars (Unicode: U+2642 ), formed by rotating the Venus symbol 135 degrees. Cross was later changed to an arrow, making it resemble a shield and spear. The symbol for a male organism or man.
