Gavialidae is a family of reptiles within the order Crocodilia. Gavialidae consists of only two surviving species, the Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) and the False Gharial (Tomistoma schlegelii), which are each the sole living representatives of the two Gavialidae genera.
Scientific classification or biological classification is a method by which biologists group and categorize species of organisms. Scientific classification also can be called scientific taxonomy, but should be distinguished from folk taxonomy, which lacks scientific basis.
