Information about Fergburger
Fergburger is a hamburger restaurant located in Queenstown, New Zealand. Fergburger specialises in gourmet hamburgers, making it fairly unique in New Zealand, given the hamburger's status in New Zealand's culinary culture. Far from pitching at the upper end of the market, Fergburger's selling point is a high quality product at a reasonable price, and is largely popular in the 20-25 year-old age bracket. While it is common for upmarket restaurants to list gourmet burgers on their menus, these are all too often more pseudo-burgers, that is, they resemble a hamburger but are not intended to be eaten like one, rather they are an ensemble of high quality ingredients loosely fitting the hamburger template. It is stressed that Fergburger's product are not to be confused with these.
The base burger, the Fergburger is quite simple. It consists of a patty of high-quality New Zealand beef mince, which is sprinkled with cracked black pepper while the patty is still raw on the grill. The idea being that as the patty cooks, the beef oil soaks into the cracked pepper and saturates the patty in the pepper's essence. This is then placed between two fresh grilled white rolls, atop a bed of fancy lettuce, tomato, and raw red onion. Garlic aioli is spread on the bottom bun, while tomato relish is spread on underside of the top bun. This burger is the template for most of the other burgers, with a range of additional ingredients available including three types of cheese, bacon, avocado, egg and beetroot. The largest of these derivatives is the Big Al, which features two larger beef patties (totaling 1/2 pound), two eggs, several rashes of bacon, grilled cheese, and beetroot, on top of the base ingredients. The burgers are cooked to order with fresh ingredients, and while they are not cheap, they are reasonably good value ($8.50 - $15).
Other than hamburgers and derivatives thereof, Fergburger also sells fries, onion rings, and squid pieces.

History
Fergburger originated operating out of a garage off Cow Lane, its obscure location making it hard to find but conversely giving it something of a novelty status, relying on word of mouth to attract customers. It has since moved to a more direct location on the main street of Queenstown, Shotover St. Anecdotal information tells that the store derives its name from a wealthy businessman who owns a large portion of the businesses in Queenstown, who goes by the name "Ferg" or possibly an expanded version of it. A painted Fergburger mural still exists at the site of its old location. It is unknown what the site is now used for.The Burgers
Fergburger has close to 30 types of burgers on their menu. While most are variations of the typical hamburger, they also feature a number of exotic variations, such as a lamb burger, a cod burger, a falafel burger and even a venison burger. They also have a variety of chicken burgers and breakfast burgers. The base burger, the Fergburger is quite simple.
