Information about Edward W. Scott
Edward W. Scott is an American businessman and philanthropist. Along with Bill Coleman and Alfred Chuang, he founded enterprise software company BEA Systems.
He was educated at Michigan State University where he received a B.A. and an M.A. in political science. He also holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University.
Scott worked for the U.S. government for seventeen years. During the Carter administration, he served as Assistant Secretary in the Department of Transportation.
After leaving government service, Scott entered the technology industry, working for Computer Consoles Inc., Pyramid Technology and Sun Microsystems where he co-founded Sun Federal, which provided services to the U.S. government.
Scott co-founded BEA Systems in 1995, where he was President. He now has no direct role in the management of the firm.
In 2001, he cofounded the Center for Global Development together with C. Fred Bergsten and Nancy Birdsall. He is currently board chairman at the center. In 2002 he founded the advocacy organisation DATA together with Bill Gates and George Soros. Additionally, Scott is a board member at the Peterson Institute and New York-based nonprofit organization Malaria No More.
