Information about Daniel Island
Daniel Island is a master planned residential and commercial area situated between the Cooper and Wando Rivers located in the city of Charleston, South Carolina and is the home to Bishop England High School, which relocated from downtown when the island was developed. The island was virtually isolated until the early 1990s when the island was connected to the Charleston metro area by the newly constructed I-526 expressway. The island was purchased from the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation in 1997. Under guidelines laid out by the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation development began. The island itself is now bisected by I-526 and the island's town center in the middle of the island with neighborhoods and schools to the south and the Daniel Island Park neighborhood and a Tom Fazio golf course to the north. The island is home to several Charleston venues such as the Family Circle Magazine Stadium, home for the Family Circle Cup[1] and Blackbaud Stadium, home of the city's professional soccer team, the Charleston Battery.
Recently development began on a vast expansion of Daniel Island's town center to include an open air market atmosphere shopping development. The development is being marketed as Charleston's premier upscale shopping destination.
