Branchiobdellae Hirudinea Oligochaeta | ||||||||
Contrary to the class of Polychaeta, they do not have parapodia and their head is less developed.
Habitats
Most clitellata live on land or in freshwater.Reproduction
All clitellata are hermaphrodites. During reproduction, the clitellum secretes a coat which hardens. The worm then creeps out backward from the coat and deposits either fertilized zygotes or both ovae and sperms into the coat, which is then packed into a cocoon. The zygotes then evolve further directly in the cocoon without passing through a larva stadium (as opposed to other annelids, e.g. polychaeta.) This mechanism is considered to be apomorphic (newer in evolution).[1]Classes
- Branchiobdellae, Leeches.
- Hirudinea, Leeches.
- Oligochaeta, Earthworms (aquatic microdriles + terrestrial megadriles).

Scientific classification or biological classification is a method by which biologists group and categorize species of organisms. Scientific classification also can be called scientific taxonomy, but should be distinguished from folk taxonomy, which lacks scientific basis.

class is the rank in the scientific classification of organisms in biology below Phylum and above Order.
For example, Mammalia is the class used in the classification of dogs, whose phylum is Chordata (animals with notochords) and order is Carnivora (mammals that eat meat).

In earthworms and some other annelids, the clitellum is a thickened glandular section of the body wall that secretes a viscid sac in which the eggs are deposited. Once the eggs have been deposited in the sac, the clitellum slides off of the earthworm's body.

Parapodia (Gr. para, beyond or beside + podia, feet), singular parapodium, are paired un-jointed lateral outgrowths. They are characteristic of Polychaeta, but they also occur in opisthobranch mollusks.
Parapodia are either uniramous or biramous.
