The Chesham Building Society is a building society based in the market town of Chesham in Buckinghamshire, England. It is the 45th largest in the United Kingdom based on total assets of £196 million at 31 November 2005.[1]
Founded in 1845, it claims to be the world's oldest building society (most early societies were wound up after all members had a house), and is currently over 160 years old. They promote themselves as offering a more personal service due to their locality to their main customers, the residents of Chesham, hence the slogan "Far better for being near to you".
The society has branches in Chesham and Little Chalfont, and a head office in Aylesbury. Their logo is a stylised chess piece, a pun on the name of the River Chess, the local river.
