Change is the fifth studio album (sixth altogether) by British pop trio the Sugababes, released by Island Records on October 1, 2007 in the Netherlands (see 2007 in music) and October 8, 2007 in the UK, and the groups first United States release, by The Island Def Jam Music Group on January 22, 2008. It features production by Dr. Luke, Xenomania, Dallas Austin, and DEEKAY among others. On the 14 October, 2007 it debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, providing the girls with their second UK #1 album.

History

In the spring and summer of 2007, the Sugababes went back into the studio to work with a number of American producers on their then-untitled fifth studio album, the band's first studio album with Amelle Berrabah. Collaborators on the album include Dr. Luke, Danish production team DEEKAY, and Novel. The Sugababes also work with prevous collaborators Xenomania, Dallas Austin and Jony Rockstar.

The official first single, titled "About You Now," was digitally released on September 24, 2007 in the UK, with the physical single release a week late. The song, which was produced by Dr. Luke, became Sugababes' 6th #1 single in the United Kingdom.

Two other tracks, titled "Denial" and Change, were confirmed by AXM magazine; the article also mentioned the Sugababes' assumed attempt to move into the American market.[3] On August 30, 2007, the group appeared on The Album Chart Show to perform the single and premiere the aforementioned album tracks. They confirmed that the album's title would be Change.

Amelle has stated that she would like "Back Down" to be a single as it "sticks out a little bit more than the other tracks." In an interview with a Danish broadcaster, Keisha confirmed that "Never Gonna Dance Again" will also likely be a single. [4] The second single, according to The Daily Star, will be title track "Change". It will be released on 10 December 2007.

The album leaked in its entirety, excluding the UK bonus track "3 Spoons Of Suga", on October 4. A day later, the bonus track was also leaked.

When inserted into the Computer, the Disc allows access to fans to bonus features such as "About You Now (Wolf Remix)" and a special interview with the group, plus wallpapers and photos.

Reception

The album has received middling reviews thus far, with The Guardian calling it a "mixed bag" but applauding tracks such as "Never Gonna Dance Again" and "Back Down".[5] The Daily Star gave the album a glowing review. going as far as to call it "one of the finest contemporary pop records of the decade".[6] The Times claimed that the album was "only slightly better than All Saints outtakes, all dated production and pop tastefulness" but complimented tracks such as "My Love is Pink" and "3 Spoons of Suga."[7]
