Information about Bambu Rolling Papers
Bambu is a name brand of rolling paper that is popular in New York and the Caribbean. It originated in Alcoy Spain, 1764. It is one of the older brands, alongside the Pay-Pay brand which originated in 1740, and some of the older French brands. Originally produced at a small factory in Alcoy, located in the province of Alicante, Spain, today Bambu is produced by Miguel Y Costas 1,2,3in Argentina and Barcelona. The Bambu brand is owned and sold in Spain by Miguel Y Costas and in the USA by Bambu Sales Inc. According to the US company, Bambu is all natural with the exception of their flavored papers, which are flavored with Saccharin and other artificial flavors. Bambu states that they adhere to the highest standards of the US FDA; however, the manufacturer of Bambu has been recently convicted for using raw materials which contain cancer causing carcinogens in their manufacturing process in order to cut production costs.[1]
Product lines
Bambu has many different sizes of paper in two materials, all of which are naturally gummed from the glue of the African Acacia tree. In contrast to Bambu's other papers which are made from a combination of wood and flax, the Pure Hemp line of papers are made from hemp. Both the hemp and regular papers come in a standard size as well as "Big Bambu", a substantially longer and wider paper which is widely distributed in the New York area. Bambu also has other sizes, most notably its Double-Wide size, a popular and widely distributed rolling paper in the Caribbean and Central America.Bambu also offers a vanilla flavored, one and a quater inch paper. Most famously, Bambu was the stylistic inspiration for movie posters for Cheech and Chong's movie Up In Smoke and a comedy album entitled Big Bambu, which came complete with a record-sized rolling paper.Developments
The Spanish manufacturer Bambu was recently charged with using illegal carcinogens in their cigarette paper.<ref name="20minutos" />References
