Information about Arthur Oliver Wheeler
Arthur Oliver Wheeler (May 1, 1860 - May 20, 1945) was the co-founder of the Alpine Club of Canada.
Wheeler was born in Kilkenny, Ireland. He moved to Canada in 1876 to work as a Dominion Land Surveyor.[1] He was involved in surveying the Crowsnest Pass area in Alberta, and the Selkirk Range in British Columbia. While in the Canadian Rockies, Wheeler became interested in climbing. In 1906, together with Elizabeth Parker, he co-founded the Alpine Club of Canada.
The ACC's Arthur O. Wheeler hut is named in his honour.
He is the father of Edward Oliver Wheeler, participated in the first topographical survey of Mount Everest in 1921. He is the grandfather of John Oliver Wheeler, an award-winning Canadian geologist.[2]
