Information about Anne Of Bohemia
Anne of Bohemia (July 11, 1366 – June 7, 1394) was a daughter of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor, King of Bohemia and Elizabeth of Pomerania.
She was also the first Queen consort of Richard II of England.
Marriage to King Richard II of England
She and King Richard were married in Westminster Abbey on 22 January, 1382. They were married for 12 years, but had no children. Anne's death from plague was a devastating blow to Richard, whose subsequent unwise conduct lost him the throne. She is buried at Westminster.Reputation
Anne is said to have been a very kind person and popular with the people of England, although her marriage to Richard was not supported at the time and many chroniclers felt Richard had purchased a wife for an over-excessive price.Richard married his second wife Isabella of Valois on 31 October, 1396.
Legacy
Anne of Bohemia is known to have made the sidesaddle more popular to ladies of the Middle Ages. She also influenced the design of carts in England when she arrived in a carriage, presumably from Kocs, Hungary, to meet her future husband Richard.| English royalty | ||
