After rambling through my old roll-top desk, I found an object that caught my eye and startled my mind. This object has forever changed my attitude on writing. That simple object is my desk key. This key not only opens and closes my desk, it also in an imaginative way, opens my mind to creativity. If I allow the key to work in this creative way, it opens up wondrous doors and avenues of writing.
I got to thinking that there might come a time when I could write about time travel or perhaps do some Biblical research. Or, maybe I could write about health issues or about people who are lost and all alone. If I look at the key as a portal to various and sundry people and places, then there is no limit to my writing abilities.
When I look at my desk key I also see other opportunities. I visualize the key in different shapes, opening up doors of unique writing opportunities—such as a self-help book that could change lives or locking a writing door such as a writing group that is holding me down.
Then I visualized emotional writing keys that could open or close hearts, minds and spirits. Emotional writing keys, such as love, hate, fear, happiness, joy, sadness and faith, have the potential for building or destroying lives. Emotional and spiritual writing keys such as bias, envy greed or love can also be productive, powerful or destructive and can forever alter lives as quickly as the cold, quick, twist of a key. Too much emotion or hyper-spirituality can weaken the body, mind and spirit. In lieu of this, how can one best use life-altering writing keys? Can this be done easily or does it require supernatural faith?
In my opinion, life-changing writing keys can be found and best utilized through belief in God, the Bible and hard work. But, the real key, the one that will get you going, lies within your heart. Let that key in your heart open your mind and spirit to all of the possibilities and wonderment of writing and be the Christian writer you’re destined to be.
