I do suspect that Nike made a fortune when they coined the motivational marketing term "Just do it". Well, "Just do it" is only half the equation. Knowledge is the other half. Doing it without being prepared through proper knowledge is very a dangerous thing indeed. However knowledge without action is totally worthless.
We teach, we coach and we advise. Knowledge is a very powerful tool indeed. It give people skills, the confidence and authority to act and to lead others. People prepare for their lives by going to college, by reading, by being mentored and by participating in apprenticeship programs. Seminars are filled with people looking for ways to improve their lives. Yet few, in fact, do.
The question is why? Is it because they are attending poor seminars or the knowledge being shared is incomplete? I doubt that is the case. Is it because they are not smart enough. That's not it either. Could it be that they don't really want to better themselves, that they are in their comfort zones where they are now? That certainly could be part of it but only a small part.
The real issue is that even with all the knowledge, they fail to do one thing. They fail to take action, deliberate and consistent action! 'Babe' Herman Ruth was one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He held the record for the most home runs for many years. He also held the record for the most strikeouts. Babe Ruth knew how to hit. He had the knowledge and he took the action. He had no fear of failure. Failure was his signal that he was a bit off course. He simply corrected his course and continued to take action toward his legendary success. Action! Think about it.
If you selling for a living, acquire the necessary knowledge to succeed then put that knowledge into action and rise to the level of a true great master.
