This is it: First Mirror the Hen
I was recently in Africa on holiday when something extraordinary happened.
I saw a hen walking along a path and decided to walk along side it. At first, the hen was walking much faster than I was in order to get away from me and I did the natural thing a man could do, reduced my speed in order to let the hen feel it was gaining an advantage so as not to scare it away.
When the hen realised I could pose no threat to it, it reduced it's speed and I caught up with it eventually.
What happened next was extraordinary, I decided to walk at the same pace as the hen by mirroring it's every movement. At first, the hen was confused but it played along. After a while, I decided to pick up the pace and guess what happened, the hen also picked up the same level of pace with me. When I slowed down, the hen slowed down, when I quickened the pace, the hen did the same.
I had successfully taken the lead by first mirroring the hen.
The same is true with people, when you mirror and not imitate people's actions, moods and posture during a conversation, people subconsciously feel relaxed and inevitably allow you to take the lead.
